Claremont High are having a 40th Anniversary Class Reunion on May the 5th in East Kilbride. Stuart Harris has more details...
A group of old school friends, and I, are arranging a 40th Anniversary School Reunion for our year at Claremont High School. This is to celebrate the year we all started secondary, 1972.
The reunion is for pupils who's class started their 'first year' at Claremont in 1972 and sixth year ended in 1978 – (there has already been some confusion from people in other years that attended the school during these years, but we are trying to make sure it is primarily for pupils of that year plus some partners and close friends from other years)
The Reunion will take place on May 5th 2012 at the Thistle Club, Maxwell Road, The Village, East Kilbride, G74 4HQ
The organisers are Chas Stevens, Irene Sanderson, Nancy Pollock, Iain Cameron and Stuart Harris
Other people from our year include - Lorraine Kelly, Robert Fleming, Frank Logan, Steven McCracken, Ian Low, George Ball, Derek England, Alan Lee, Lynne Thompson, Carol McCluckie, John Mollins, Stephen Cuthill, Arlene Dallas, Joyce Dunn, Eivor Dempster, Janice Harriden, Pamela Deans, Iain Campbell, Linda Kerr, Jim Hemple, Hugh Hendry, Chris Hicks, John Dalrymple, Malcolm Lang
On the night we will have a disco playing some of the classics from our time at school, (there is already a discussion brewing about whether we have more Donny than David (either Essex or Cassidy), how many classic Punk tracks can be pogo-ed to by people in their 'very' early 50's. As far as some of us are concerned we should have a full night of David Bowie songs but others are championing disco crackers by the likes of Shalamar, Lipps Inc, Disco Tex & The Sex-o-Letts along other classics we all used to bop along to at the Olympia (or when we used to sneak into the Mushroom for half a shandy or cheeky Babysham), we are also getting bombarded with requests from fans of Slade, Mud and even Blodwyn Pig.
The guys are fighting a losing battle with the girls to ban any ABBA songs
That's before we even get to the non-smoochie smoochie at the end of the night - should it be Chicago's If You Leave Me Now or Leo Sayer's When I Need You?
We have already had a few not-so dry dry runs at The Stewartfield Farm, The Torrance Hotel and the Monty (an old stomping ground for many of us), everyone has had a fantastic nights catching up, renewing auld acquaintances - with us all sharing great memories, old and new.
For those travelling back to EK for the weekend, The Torrance Hotel have kindly offered us a reduced accommodation rate for the Friday and Saturday nights, so far we have friends planning on coming from all over the UK, and from as far afield as Canada and the US
We have created a Facebook Fanpage called Claremont High, East Kilbride. 40th Reunion Party for class of '72-'78 ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
